The schwa is a phonetic symbol commonly used in phonetic transcriptions. To make it simple, most of dictionaries try to recreate the sounds of English consequently there is a phonetic alphabet which must be understood by the readers of Niederland,Sverige,Korea or Chile. Now this alphabet includes the schwa (That's basically an unaccented neutral vowel between the vowel sounds "e" and "a").
Your teacher.
